I am writing this to you from a quiet spot off the coast of Perth. My eyes were first drawn to this tiny flower near the beach house. It is so small compared to the vast Indian Ocean, yet it stands there with such simple beauty, perfectly at home in the coastal breeze.
As I sat there, the sunset began to transform the sky.
Watching the sun dip toward the horizon, I looked at the water. The ocean was not still; the waves were constantly coming and going. I realized then that the ocean never tries to "hold onto" the shore. It hits the sand and then gracefully pulls back, over and over again. It has its own natural rhythm of arrival and departure.
This is the heart of Acceptance.
So often, we try to hold onto moments, people, or even our own energy, afraid to let them go. But the sunset and the waves teach us a different way. Just as the sun gives way to the night, and the wave returns to the deep, we can learn to flow with the changes in our own lives.
As the light fades, my gaze returns to the little flower. It doesn't worry about the sun setting or the tide changing. It simply remains rooted, accepting the wind and the salt spray as they come. It reminds me that we can find a steady strength when we stop fighting the "ebb and flow" of our lives.
As a mindfulness experience designer, I see this rhythm in the three shifts we practice together:
From Passion to Compassion: Moving from the "fire" of striving to hold onto everything, toward a gentle light that allows us to simply be.
From Doing to Noticing: Shifting from the need to control the waves to the Art of Noticing their natural, beautiful rhythm.
From Teaching to Guiding: Rather than forcing a lesson, we let nature be our guide, meeting each sunset with a Beginner’s Mind.
Journey inward, grow forward.
🌷 May your Tuesday be as steady as the tide.
