The Art of Savouring Time: Finding Grace in the "Now"
There is a quiet kind of courage in the way a dragonfly rests.
In the photo I captured this week, a slender dragonfly balances right on the very tip of a leaf, hovering just above the calm water.
If a person stood that close to the edge, our minds would instantly race to the worst: the slip, the fall, the splash into the deep. We would hold on with tight hands, scared to move.
Yet, there it sits. Calm and still, trusting a thin leaf to hold its weight.
Even more touching is what happened next. When people walked past and made a noise, the dragonfly flew away. It didn't fight or panic; it simply moved. But as soon as the noise faded, it flew right back to the exact same spot, settling down with the exact same peace.
Lately, life reminds us how close we walk to the edge. Hearing of sudden losses among people we care about pulls our hearts inward. It shows us how fragile our days are, and how easily life can startle us or sweep us away from our calm.
We spend so much time rushing, worrying about the future, or feeling like one sudden disruption means we can never find our peace again.
Standing by that water, watching the dragonfly return to its quiet spot, a few gentle thoughts came to mind:
From fear to trust: Realizing that worrying doesn't keep us safe; it only steals the joy of the present moment. True peace comes when we let ourselves land.
From fearing change to knowing how to return: Accepting that life's noises will always startle us, but we always have the grace to fly back to our centre.
From rushing through time to deep gratitude for the "now": Remembering that we don't need a guaranteed tomorrow to feel safe—we only need to breathe and appreciate right now.
May you find a quiet leaf to land on this week, trusting the moment just as it is, and holding your loved ones close. 🌷
