The Life-Changing Discovery in My Morning cuppa Kopi-O-Kosong
🌞
Standing in the usual queue at my neighborhood market hawker centre for my morning-must-have cup of Kopi-O-Kosong ☕ , I was mentally rehearsing my to-do list when the elderly Aunty 👩🦳 in front of me struck up a conversation with Brother Tiong .
"Wah Ah Tiong ah, your kopi-o-kosong today extra fragrant lah!"
Brother Tiong beamed 😁 . "Aiyo, you always say nice things. I give you extra strong!"
In that moment, I realized I'd been ordering my morning kopi-o-kosong for years without really seeing Brother Tiong who brews it, or appreciating that this humble coffee stall has been serving our community's caffeine needs for over 20 years.... my caffeine needs - such a perfect cuppa for me to start the day right.
When it was my turn, I made eye contact, said thank you with a smile, and really really meant it. Brother Tiong smiled wider than I'd ever seen.
Here's what I learned about daily gratitude:
It's not about grand gestures—it's about truly seeing what's already in front of us. The MRT driver who keeps our trains running smoothly. The garbage truck men who clear our rubbish every day, keeping our neighborhood clean and livable. The kopitiam that becomes our second dining room (sometimes).
Simple invitation for this week: Pick one person you interact with regularly—the cleaning aunty, security guard, or grab driver. Make genuine eye contact and express real appreciation. Notice how it changes the moment for both of you.
Singapore's true beauty isn't just in our glittering skyline or pristine gardens—it's in these precious daily connections we often rush past without seeing. It's in the weathered hands that brew our morning kopi with care, the gentle smiles that brighten our mundane errands, the quiet acts of service that weave the fabric of our society together 🤚 🤚 .
What everyday interaction in your routine might be waiting for your appreciation? Who is your unsung heroes in your daily life?
Feel free to share in the comments or drop me a message—these stories of gratitude always warm the heart. Or perhaps pause ⏸️ a moment and think about it 😌 .

May you have eyes to see the extraordinary in the ordinary, and a heart grateful enough to acknowledge it. 🙏
