The Mirror Teaches
I stood at Mandai Boardwalk, and the world stopped before me.
The reservoir stretched out before me, so vast and calm that sky and water became one. I couldn't tell where the clouds ended and their reflection began. The trees on the opposite shore stood tall above, then repeated themselves below in perfect symmetry. It was as if nature had created a mirror just to show me something profound.
I found myself in awe - not just of the beauty, but of the stillness required to create such perfection. The slightest ripple would have shattered the reflection. But the water held steady, patient, undisturbed.
🌷 Stillness reveals truth. When our minds are choppy with worry, racing with endless tasks, clouded with noise, we can't see clearly. But when we pause, when we cultivate inner calm, life reflects back to us with startling clarity. We see things as they truly are.
🌷 Vastness puts things in perspective. Standing before something so expansive reminded me how small my daily worries really are. The never-ending emails, the minor frustrations, the things I stress about - they all seemed to shrink against this boundless sky and water. Sometimes we need to step into vastness to remember what truly matters.
🌷 Perfect reflections happen in stillness, not in motion. Our busiest, most productive days aren't always our most meaningful ones. Sometimes the most important thing we can do is simply be still enough to reflect - on our lives, our choices, our connections. That's when clarity comes.
I could have rushed past this view, phone in hand, mind already at the next destination or complained about the mozzies.
But I stopped. I looked. I marvelled.
And in that moment of presence, the reservoir gave me back more than a beautiful image - it gave me peace.
When was the last time you let yourself be still enough to truly reflect?
