Ashie laid down in front of my laptop. Paws on my hand.
I shoved him aside. Work to do.
He came back. Laid down on the keyboard.
I moved him to his favorite cushion in the corner. "Go rest there," I said, annoyed.
He came back. Sat up. Gave me this look - right in front of my face. Those green-gold eyes steady and insistent.
And that's when I got it.
The Emperor's Three Questions:
What is the most important time? NOW.
Who is the most important person? The one you're with.
What is the most important thing to do? Love them.
Ashie wasn't being annoying. He was teaching me what I'd forgotten in my busyness. That this moment matters. That he matters. That love happens now, or not at all.
I stopped. Kissed him. Hugged him. "I love you too, Ashie."
The work could wait. It always can. But this moment? This was what mattered.
My Small Shifts:
Presence is love in action - being with someone fully is the greatest gift I can give
Distractions will always exist; choosing to pause for what matters is always a choice
Sometimes the most important teacher has four paws and refuses to take no for an answer
Who or what keeps trying to get your attention that you keep pushing aside?
